Get Outside for Mental Health announces the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust as this year’s beneficiary
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the KCT is grateful to be the beneficiary of this free event throughout the month of May. We believe access to a healthy environment is vital for human health and wellbeing. For more information, visit: 2025 Greg Hoffer GOMH Memorial Event
Background Information
As the Greg Hoffer story details, he loved the outdoors -- where he felt the most comfortable and at peace. He had a unique awareness and appreciation for the importance of nature and how it connects with us… if we let ourselves connect with it – and to the value of letting this happen. He encouraged many to get out and embrace it. Since his passing, friends have shared stories of their making themselves get out and surf, run a half or full marathon, go for a hike, smell a rose, or watch a bug.
Perpetuating that encouragement is one of the main purposes of Get Outside for Mental Health. The direct benefits are improvement in your own well-being (from being in nature, breathing the air, getting exercise, taking the time for yourself). Other benefits include having even greater respect for nature and doing more to care for it, bringing others to it, supporting organizations that steward the positive values of sincerity, respect, and being open about mental health, and spreading the love by wearing the T-Shirt that people regularly comment is their new favorite!
Connection to the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust
Also as described in Greg's story, he discovered and investigated the KCT trails and islands early after arriving, and drew his family to these resources. As it turns out, the KCT is keenly aligned with Greg's interests in the natural, its preservation, and the sharing of it, so, the KCT is the 2025 beneficiary for funds raised here.
