The Arundel Conservation Trust Celebrates Growth and Progress in 2024
The Arundel Conservation Trust (ACT), an all-volunteer, independent, and self-financed chapter of the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust (KCT), is dedicated to the conservation of Arundel’s unique natural, recreational and scenic resources for all to enjoy creating a stronger and more vibrant community. While "young in years", ACT has been able to accomplish much thanks to the significant efforts of our dedicated volunteers and the generosity of our greater community.
At the end of 2023, ACT reached a significant milestone by paying off the final installment on the loan to the KCT for the 67-acre land parcel, now home to the Arundel Community Trails on Limerick Road in Arundel. On May 31, 2024, ACT celebrated by hosting a community event at the trailhead of the Community Trails. Mother nature cooperated, providing beautiful, warm, sunny weather for the celebration. The gathering included State Senator Henry Ingwersen, Arundel town officials, board members from both ACT and KCT, friends and community members.
During the ceremony, Joan Hull, one of the six founding members of ACT, shared the history of how the Arundel Conservation Trust began and the purchase of the Limerick Road property. Tom Bradbury, Executive Director of the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, added to the occasion by officially transferring the deeds for two properties that had been under ACT’s stewardship; the Cluff property and the Welch Woods property. The ceremony concluded by symbolically "burning the Limerick Road property mortgage" to the cheers of the audience.
TrailFest continues to be ACT's largest event and fundraiser. The annual event was made possible by our 2024 Title Sponsor, Weirs Buick GMC Motors Sales and many other generous sponsors and dedicated volunteers. TrailFest 2024 hosted a record of over 200 participants taking part in a 5K, 10K, or Half Marathon trail run, with a kid's bicycle race on the Roll Um Easy Bike Trail. It was a great community event, including live entertainment, food, drinks, bubbles for the kids and fun for all participants. Mark your calendars for the 5th anniversary year of TrailFest, to be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025!
ACT stewards five properties in Arundel, supports a growing membership base, and relies on a dedicated team of volunteers and community sponsors. Together, they have created a vibrant trail system, a bike pump track, and a beautiful gathering place along Limerick Road that fosters both community and connection.
