Dock Square c. 1930’s

“Although unpaid taxes continued to erode the town’s treasury, the country’s economic upturn would begin to be manifested in Kennebunkport during 1935. Cottage rentals got off to a slow start, but two new combination tea rooms and gift shops (The Hitching Post and another run by Mrs. Grace Allyn) and at least six other new gift shops (augmenting about ten old standbys) opened for the season. The Weinsteins hired J. Frank Seavey to build over the front of their Dock Square store.”
