The snow removal appropriation in 1934 was $5000. During the winter only $3,229.84 was spent, and in the spring of 1935 the approximately $1,700 balance was used to buy three plows that would be attached to trucks. Another $28.08 was paid to the Ocean Bluff Garage and Mrs. Ellen Littlefield for ‘expense on Women’s Project and use of car investigating snow removal equipment.’ Evidently a group of women, including Ellen Littlefield, the wife of Warren Littlefield (proprietor of the Ocean Bluff Garage) and the manager of their nearby Green Heron Inn, had been enlisted to help the town get its own snowplows. The women were not members of the committee that had been appointed at the annual meeting, but Littlefield’s husband was and must have enlisted their help in investigating the cost of new equipment.
