“Sam (Wildes) went to work at Cape Porpoise pier 40 years ago, and is still there today (1976). ‘When I went down to work at the pier in 1936, I worked seven days a week, 10 hours a day, for Frank Nunan. He owned the place and used to hire people. School kids in the summer months. I used to tend it in the winter. He was taken sick and went home, so I ran it until May 15, 1945. He died in February and I bought it from Mrs. Nunan. She said she didn’t really want it so she sold it to me. I owned it until the building was gotten rid of and sold to the Cape Porpoise Pier Corporation.”
