Beachwood, In Days Gone By

“There is a beach at Beachwood! No great stretch of sand miles long to be sure; no broad race track either. A handsome bit of shore nonetheless. It forms one side of a bay, the other side a typical Maine island, rocky and verdant. The island (Timber Island) shelters the beach. No heavy surf spoils the bathing for little folk. The sand shelves away imperceptibly far out under the water. The beach is safe. It is beautiful. That is why Beachwood is growing to be what it is.”
