The Kennebunkport Conservation Trust (KCT), in partnership with Flycatcher LLC, the University of New England (UNE), and Maine Natural Resource Conservation Program (MNRCP), will host a press event for an ongoing  wetland restoration project at the Edwin L. Smith Preserve.

Wednesday, October 21, 2026, 10:30am, we invite local media and community members to view the restoration work in progress, take advantage of photo and video opportunities of the active planting, and be a part of interviews with project organizers and conservation stewards.

During this effort,  Kennebunkport Conservation Trust staff and community volunteers will work with Flycatcher LLC to get more than 2,000 native wetland shrubs and trees into the ground. This phase of the project introduces a massive volume of native flora to stabilize soils, improve local water quality, and establish vital habitat for regional wildlife. Active planting will occur Wednesday through Friday, October 21 to October 23, and volunteers are needed!

"With thousands of plants to get into the ground, we are incredibly grateful for the energy and hands brought by UNE students and our community volunteers," said Pam Morgan. "This collaborative effort represents a significant step forward in restoring this land to a functioning wetland. Please come join us for our planting party!"
